Canterbury graduates 19 local students
One hundred and five students, 19 of whom are from the Greater New Milford area, graduated May 28 from Canterbury School in New Milford.
The private school held its 96th commencement exercises on its campus just north of the village center. The graduation started with an academic procession to the chapel, followed by a celebration of the Eucharist.
Trustee John D. O'Neill, Class of '57, delivered the commencement address.
Audrey Duquette offered the valedictory address.

Awards were presented during the spring athletic awards dinner, at the academic awards assembly and at graduation.
Seniors who did not receive awards but will go on to college are also listed.

Brandon McBreairty of New Milford: Western Connecticut State University.
Elizabeth O'Keeffe of New Milford: Ohio Wesleyan University. The Edward F. Mack Award for outstanding contributions to women of Canterbury, Best Sportsmanship and the Philip H. Brodie Award for exceptional achievement and all-around service to the school.
Brody Pfeifer of New Milford: Lehigh University. The Edward F. Mack Award for outstanding contributions to community service.
John Sheehy of New Milford: U.S. Naval Academy. Member of the Canterbury Honor Society, the Kevin E. Sheehan '62 Baseball Award, the Captain Thomas J. Sartor Award for excellence in the study of science and the Robert M. Steele '72 Scholar-Athlete Trophy. United States Naval Academy appointment presented by United States Military Corp Major Retired Owen McDonnell; received the Dr. Nelson Hume Award awarded to the sixth former whose leadership, character, and achievements have been of the highest order, and whose performance embodies the ideals of the founding headmaster.
Sydney Trezza of New Milford: Lynn University. The Edward F. Mack Award for outstanding contributions to Women of Canterbury and the Elizabeth "Betty" Burke Award.
