Calls Rotary's ShredFest the 'most successful to date'

To the Editor:

On May 3, the Rotary Club of New Milford held its annual Community Document Shredding Day, ShredFest 2014 at Lore's Plaza.

Once again, there was an excellent turnout, making this year's event the most successful one to date.

Our yearly Earth Day event attracted many enthusiastic individuals and businesses who brought hundreds of boxes of documents for shredding by Secure Eco Shred's powerful mobile shredding truck.

As in past events, approximately 12,000 pounds of documents were shredded that would have otherwise ended up in the landfill.

That's six tons of shredded papers that will be recycled into other paper products, saving approximately 130 trees from destruction.

Since this event began in 2007, more than 100,000 pounds of documents have been shredded, saving approximately 1,000 trees from being cut down.

All money collected by the New Milford Rotary Club at ShredFest 2014, as at all of its popular events, including the Memorial Day Duck Race, Village Fair Days fried dough booth and golf tournament, stays within our local community.

This enables Rotary to contribute to areas such as school and educational enhancement, student scholarships and study-abroad opportunities, senior citizen projects and many other local, civic and environmental causes that improve the quality of life for all of our area residents.

The Rotary Club would like to thank the following for their support in promoting ShredFest 2014 and helping to make it a huge success:

The Greater New Milford Spectrum and its sister paper, The News-Times; Charter Communications; the Yankee Pennysaver in Brookfield; the Greater New Milford Chamber of Commerce; KatArt Graphics; and Lore's Plaza.

The Rotary Club would especially like to thank Michael Smith of Secure Eco Shred of Brookfield for donating his time and shredding trucks each year for this highly anticipated event.

Please visit our website at for information on future events and becoming a volunteer/member of the New Milford Rotary Club.

New members can meet and network with many individuals and businesses from the New Milford community.
