Plans are moving ahead to build a restroom facility at the Joseph Wiser Athletic Complex at New Milford High School.
He said it's high time people who attend the school's athletic events, many of them parents and grandparents, put their restroom worries to rest.
To date, the Booster Club has raised about one-third of the estimated $60,000 cost of the bathrooms. Its gala earlier this month at the Fox Hill Inn in Brookfield raised $12,000 to add to $9,000 it had earned with other fundraisers.
A Billy Joel tribute band the club has booked to perform May 1 may generate as much as $10,000.
"It'll just be a terrific thing to have," Mr. Monteiro said of the new, handicap-accessible bathrooms the Booster Club intends to build at the north side of the Booster barn that houses the club's concession stand and equipment.
In December, Mr. Monteiro and fellow Booster Club members won permission from the Board of Education to move ahead with their plans.
"The portable toilets are disgusting," Board of Education chairman Wendy Faulenbach said, applauding the Booster Club initiative.
The Booster Club hopes to have the sewer connection and foundation for the facility done this summer and the restrooms fully operational by the 2011-12 season.
Mr. Monteiro is sending donation requests to townspeople and businesses he thinks might be able to provide money or labor.
