B. Preston Gilmore, 89, of New Preston and Boca Raton, Fla., died Dec. 10. He was the husband of Marilyn (Adam) Gilmore.

He was born Oct. 20, 1923, in North Providence, R.I., the son of the late Frank and Mae (Preston) Gilmore.

He graduated from LaSalle Academy in Providence, Manhattan College with a bachelors' degree in electrical engineering and Rutgers University with a master's degree in business administration.

Mr. Gilmore was a 1st lieutenant with the Army Engineers during World War II.

He was the retired owner of WWYZ-FM, WATR-AM and WATR-TV in Waterbury and WNAB-AM in Bridgeport.

Most of his life was spent living between New Preston, Boca Raton and more recently, Nevada and California.

Mr. Gilmore was an avid golfer and a member of the Lake Waramaug Country Club, Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club, and the Delray Beach Club. He enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Gilmore is survived by two sons, Mark T. Gilmore, of Southbury, and Steven P. Gilmore, of Woodbury; two daughters, Susan Geiger, of Waitsfield, Vt., and Jacquelyn M. Cloherty, of Waltham, Mass.; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by an infant son, Gregory; his first wife of more than 50 years, Florence "Dolly" (Thomas) Gilmore; and a brother, Robert Gilmore, of Harwichport, Mass.

Burial was at St. Anthony Cemetery in Litchfield.

The Rowe Funeral Home in Litchfield was in charge of arrangements.
