Asks for more accountability in Sherman
To the Editor:
Sherman First Selectman Clay Cope responded to a question regarding the 63.2 percent increase in the business associate's salary by saying the responsibilities have increased to include work on the budget and other duties. When asked to elaborate, he chose not to give a more comprehensive answer.
We wonder how the responsibilities of the first selectman's office have increased to such a degree in the two years that he has been in office, that such a rise in salary and hours is necessary.
The first selectman should give a more thorough accounting of both his and the business associate's responsibilities before expecting the town to vote for a budget including such an excessive salary increase.
