To the Editor:

We would like to share with local business owners and organizations in New Milford an opportunity to put your business's name on display in a way that matters to our residents and shows your concern for their good health, ability to get more exercise and improve the quality of their life in our town.

The New Milford River Trail Association is encouraging residents of all ages to walk and ride bikes more often by making our town more walkable and bikable.

In cooperation with Mayor Pat Murphy and with the assistance of New Milford Parks & Recreation and the New Milford Public Works Department, NMRTA is launching a campaign in conjunction with New Milford businesses.

The goal: Install 13 bike racks throughout the village center, and at a number of local parks and ballfields.

We are hoping local businesses and organizations will consider underwriting the cost for one or more of these bike racks.

In return, we promise to acknowledge your generous contribution by engraving the name of your business onto a 4" by 8" stainless steel plaque permanently affixed to the bike rack or sidewalk.

NMRTA's new campaign to install bike racks in key locales follows installation along our roads of brightly-colored "Share The Road" signs and completion of the first section by the Public Works Department of a beautiful walking, jogging and and biking trail along the Housatonic River at Sega Meadows.

At present, thanks, in large part, to an Economic Development Commission matching grant, a feasibility study has been undertaken to extend that trail back closer to our downtown.

Eventually, we anticipate a greenway that would connect our town with the proposed Western New England Greenway Trail from Massachusetts all the way to New York City.

Please contact me for more information about the bike rack styles (four in all), locations, availability, prices (prices range from $369 to just more than $1,000), possible co-sponsoring or partial contributions, at 860-355-1098.

Thank you.
