Ask for help funding cheerleading trip to London
[Editor's Note: The following is an open letter to the community from New Milford High School cheerleaders Sydney Fairchild and Alyssa Santos.]
Dear family, friends and neighbors:
For those of you who may not already know, we were selected this summer by the Universal Cheer Association camp as All-American cheerleaders.
By earning All-American status, we have been given the opportunity to go to London, England, and perform in the annual Varsity London New Year's Day parade.
We are very honored and excited about being a part of this. Participating in this experience not only exposes us to valuable international education and adventure, but also provides us with the opportunity to represent with great pride our country, our state and our own hometown of New Milford.
If we are able to raise enough money, our trip will begin Dec. 26 and end Jan. 2, 2015.
Along with hours of rehearsal, culminating with our cheer performance on New Year's Day, we will also be visiting a lot of the historical sites as part of our overseas experience. (This is Sydney's first time going to another country.)
Some of the places we will visit with our Varsity-UCA escorts and other fellow Varsity All American nominees are Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, where William and Kate were married, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, as well as visiting Windsor, one of England's greatest and most historical cities.
We were hoping you would be willing to help us out by donating your refundable recycling each week from now until we leave in December.
If you agree, we will pick up any bags left at the end of your driveways each week on Saturdays, and/or you can bring the recyclables to Stop and Shop on Sunday, Oct. 19. On that day, we will have a bake sale/bottle drive.
Our families are also planning a tag sale at 122 Washington Ridge Road in New Milford on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5.
If you have things you'd like to donate, we will pick those items up as well, as we all know "one man's trash is another man's treasure."
Or just come and peruse the items for sale.
We also will be pairing up with the car wash Personal Touch in New Milford (both locations -- on Route 7 across from Home Depot and on Route 202 across from Dunkin Donuts) all day Sunday, Oct. 12. We will receive 10 percent of their day's profit.
Along with that fundraiser, the following weekend we will be selling baked goods and collecting recyclables outside Stop and Shop Oct. 19 and would love for you to stop by and treat yourself to some goodies.
Our last fundraiser will be a pasta dinner and raffle Oct. 26 at the VFW at 11 Avery Road in New Milford.
We will sell admission tickets in advance for $10 a person and $25 a family or at the door on the day of the event.
We hope to see you all there.
Thank you so much for your help and support in advance. If you have any questions please feel free to call Sydney Fairchild at 860-946-7113, Colleen Fairchild at 860-946-9018, Alyssa Santos at 860-806-4819 and Cristina Santos at 203-512-3893.
