To the Editor:

New Milford High School is a jewel in our midst.

As a motivational speaker, I am blessed with the opportunity to travel this great land of ours and share a message of inspiration and encouragement with thousands of young people.

Over the past two semesters, I have visited over 200 high schools in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I have visited New Milford, N.J., New Milford, Pa., and New Milford, N.Y.

It was only recently I had the opportunity to speak at my local high school in New Milford, Conn.

What I found when I walked into the building astounded me.

New Milford High School is quite possibly the most beautiful high school I have ever been inside and, as I've established, I've seen quite a few.

From the architectural design of the building to the pristine condition of every floor and surface, to the beautiful touches added by the student body such as the amazing mural on the wall outside the theater.

And no, it's not an auditorium, it is a theater, complete with box office.

I spoke to the junior class this year and, if their level of attentiveness, enthusiasm, and comportment is any indication (and I think it is), the academics are indeed matching the atmosphere.

Each year at budget time, we bemoan the seemingly ever-increasing tax burden placed upon us by the Board of Education.

And as anyone who knows me can attest, I am absolutely stingy when it comes to taxes.

But in my opinion, at least at the high school level, the money is being well spent and our tax dollars are providing an outstanding environment for the education of our children.
