Alice Walsh Zanzal, 85, died Feb. 15, 2010, at Brandywine Assisted Living Center in Litchfield. She was the widow of Stephen Zanzal, who died on June 12, 2005.

Mrs. Zanzal was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Danbury, a daughter of Gerald and Mary (Gilhuly) Walsh. She graduated from Danbury High School in 1942.

Until moving to Litchfield in 2009, she was a lifelong resident of Danbury.

Mrs. Zanzal served in the Navy (Waves) during World War II.

She was employed by Western Connecticut State University for 20 years,as secretary to the music department, retiring in 1987.

Mrs. Zanzal was charter member and past president of WAVES National, Chapter 106, and a member of St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury for 43 years.

Mrs. Zanzal is survived by two sons, Andrew Zanzal, and his wife, Joanne, of Cheshire, and Thomas Zanzal, now residing in India; three daughters, Stephanie Valluzzo, and her husband, Francis, of Apex, N.C., Marilyn Goens, and her husband, George, of Litchfield, and Anne-Marie Davenport, and her husband, James, of Washington; 12 grandchildren, Matt Valluzzo, and his wife, Jessica, Christopher Valluzzo, and his wife, Charlotte, Adam Rinko, and his wife, Kimberly, Katya Weaver, and her husband Chad, Kara McDermott, and her husband, Michael, Laura and Brian Zanzal, Radha Zanzal and Carley, Jamie, Chase and Cole Davenport; five great- grandchildren, Josie, Abby, Emmabelle, Isabella and Jack; a sister, Rosemary Oates, of Durhan, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Theodore F. Walsh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated tomorrow (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call tonight (Friday) from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St. in Danbury.
