The eighth annual Celebration of Young Writers and After School Arts Program benefit auction will take place Saturday, May 11, in Washington.

The event will open at 5 p.m. with a cocktail reception under a tent at the First Congregational Church on the Green, followed by a live and silent auction.

Noted author Frank Delaney will serve as host.

For the first time, the event includes an expanded silent and live auction featuring unique items such as a Macallan Distillery Scotland trip and a fully catered hoedown party for 40 new celebrity readers.

The event, a major fundraiser for the After School Arts Program, will feature the work of area young writers, read aloud by local celebrities, including Mia Farrow, Jack Gilpin and Anne Garrels.

Past readers have brought humor and emotional depth to the children's essays, selected from submissions of children in kindergarten through grade 12.

The evening will conclude with the presentation of the Frank McCourt Prize for Excellence in Teaching to a dedicated local educator.
