An AARP driver safety program will be held May 20 in New Milford.

For more than 30 years, the traditional eight-hour course has provided instruction to more than 12 million participants nationwide looking to refresh their driving skills.

The eight-hour course has been offered in the Greater New Milford area for years. Now a four-hour version is available.

The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Milford Senior Center located in the Richmond Citizen Center at 40 Main St.

"This new four-hour course is a great way for drivers to refocus on safety, especially as they get ready for vacation season," said Joe Quinn, Connecticut AARP driver safety coordinator.

"Each of us needs to take responsibility for keeping up our own driving skills and monitoring those of family members, whether young or old," he said.

"This new four-hour course is a one-stop way to do it," he said.

In addition, state law mandates a minimum discount of five percent off one's insurance for at least two years upon completion of the course.

The course will cost $14. AARP members will be given a $2 discount.
