Green Wave baseball etches its mark in Cooperstown
A South-West Conference quarterfinal playoff defeat Monday to Masuk in Monroe cost the New Milford High School baseball team its hope for a league title this spring.
Yet with state class `LL' tournament action looming ahead, coach John Wrenn's diamond `9' is still riding high from its May 14 experience in Cooperstown, N.Y.
The Green Wave visited the hometown of the Baseball Hall of Fame, paying a visit to the famed museum while in town.
When given the chance to play a game on the legendary Doubleday Field, the NMHS bat crew responded with a 5-2 victory over Chase Collegiate of Waterbury.
The Cooperstown trip marked the Green Wave program's seventh since its debut there in 2000.
In 2003, '05, '07 and '09, coach Wrenn has led his squad on a spring trip to Disneyworld in Orlando, Fl.
"(It's) two great experiences for the kids and they basically get to do each once in their four-year career," explained coach Wrenn.
