A study to evaluate the presence of arsenic and uranium in residential drinking water supplies (private wells) is underway.
The current effort is is part of a statewide study being conducted by the state Department of Public Health and several local health departments.
Some private wells, including in New Milford, have been found to contain potentially harmful levels of naturally occurring arsenic and uranium.
The New Milford Health Department is working with the state to conduct tests in 20 private wells in New Milford.
The local health department is seeking residents interested in participating in the study.
Residents who own a home served by a private well are welcome. Water samples will be analyzed and test reports obtained from the state laboratory in Rocky Hill.
The New Milford health office will provide a follow up report with an explanation of the test results to all participants.
