FAIRFIELD — WSHU has announced that it will air the final episode of “Car Talk” on Saturday, Aug. 26.

The call-in show, in which offered automotive advice with plenty of humor in the interstitial spaces, has been a tradition in many homes in the region since WSHU began airing the series three decades ago. It was hosted by Tom & Ray Magliozzi; Tom died in 2014.

For the last five years it’s been known as “The Best of Car Talk” and it consisted of heavily-edited Car Talk segments from the show’s earlier years. The show airs every Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

"Thank you for 30 great years,” Ray Magliozzi said. “We've had a lot of fun, but now it's time to make room for something new."

Officials at WSHU, 91.1 FM, said that the Saturday morning time slot will be filled beginning Sept. 2 with a new show, “The New Yorker Radio Hour.” The show will consist of profiles of “interesting people, compelling storytelling, and insightful conversations,” according to a statement.
