Taxes may bump up slightly in Roxbury

Roxbury taxpayers may be facing a slight increase in taxes in the 2015-16 fiscal year.

With a proposed $10.3 million budget, the town's selectmen have recommended a tax rate of $1,360 to $1,370 for every $100,000 of assessed property value -- an increase of $30 from the present year.

The municipal budget proposal for operating and capital would be $3.2 million, an increase of $151,400 from the current fiscal year.

Roxbury's share of the Region 12 school district budget would be up $163,700, to $7.1 million, due to a slight increase in student numbers.

Factors for municipal operations include a 10 percent increase budgeted for insurance costs.

However, some town employees are taking advantage of the town's medical reimbursement incentive, so the increase may be less when final figures are in, said First Selectman Barbara Henry.

The Board of Finance was slated to resume its budget review Tuesday, April 21.
