It took more than two weeks for the first shooting of 2019 to occur in Bridgeport, but there have since been seven incidents — including one fatal.

The latest shooting occurred on Jan. 28 when a man was wounded in the shoulder on William Street.

Bridgeport’s second homicide of 2019 occurred the previous day when a 50-year-old man was fatally shot in front of the Citgo gas station on Reservoir Avenue around 9 a.m. Jan. 27. Jayvell Washington, of Bridgeport, has been charged with the murder.

Two shootings occurred on Jan. 26. A 28-year-old man was wounded on Hough Avenue in one of the incidents. Police said the victim was driven to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, and has refused to identify the shooter. The second shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. when a 28-year-old New Haven man was wounded outside the New England Tractor Trailer School.

On Jan. 20, two people were shot in the back in unrelated incidents.

A 27-year-old woman was shot in the back while in a car on Birdseye Street around 6:10 p.m. Police said the woman’s injuries were non-life-threatening and she has refused to cooperate with their investigation.

A 28-year-old man was also shot in the back on Jan. 20. Police said the victim was shot on Beatrice Street and he is also not cooperating with detectives.

The first shooting of the year occurred on Jan. 18 when a man was shot twice in the leg on Washington Terrace around 9:45 p.m. The victim has also not cooperated with police.
