Richard Haug, 71, had a son in New Milford

Richard D. Haug, 71, of Danbury, formerly of Greenwich, husband of Joanne (Henry) Haug, died July 11, 2009, at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Haug was born Oct. 17, 1937, son of the late John and Grace (Waterbury) Haug. He graduated from Greenwich High School and the Norwalk Community College.

He served 10 years in the Navy during the beginning of the Vietnam War and went on to serve the town of Greenwich as a police officer for 30 years, retiring at the rank of detective.

In addition to his wife of 37 years, he is survived by four children, Kelly Granja and David Haug of Danbury, Richard Haug Jr. of New Milford and Debra Whitman, of Norwalk; a brother, John Haug; two sisters, Arlene Krom of Stamford and Joan Marino of Cos Cob; and six grandchildren, Ashley, Jessica, Tyler, Ryan, Conner and Dylan. He was predeceased by a sister, Toni Haug.

The Green Funeral Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.
