Renters may qualify for rebate

The Washington assessor's office has announced the state's renter's rebate program open to those who turned 65 by Dec. 31.

Totally disabled renters are also eligible, regardless of age.

In addition, 5 percent of the applicant's qualifying income must not exceed 35 percent of his/her total rental and utility payments.

Applicants must show copies of their 2012 income tax returns, if filed, along with proof of Social Security income with SSA1099, proof of any additional income earned in 2012, rent receipts for 2012 or a letter from the landlord verifying total rent paid in 2011 and a printout of receipts from electric, gas or oil companies for 2012 payments.
