Voters in Region 12 put their support behind Superintendent of Schools Pat Cosentino's first fiscal budget proposal during Tuesday's referendum vote.

A $21.66 million budget for fiscal year 2013-14 passed, 487-245.

The new budget will represent a 1.43 percent increase over the present year.

The vote breakdown by towns was Bridgewater, 88-72; Roxbury, 101-67; and Washington 298-106.

Cosentino became superintendent in July 2012. She said in preparing the 2013-14 budget that her guiding principal would be what is best for the students.

"I am very appreciative for the support of all three communities," Cosentino said Tuesday. "I believe this budget is aligned with the long-range plans for the district and the strategic plan the Board of Education has put in place. I am very please the budget passed."

Board of Education Chairman James Hirschfield also was "happy that people saw fit to pass the budget. I'm glad for Dr. Cosentino that this, her first budget with the region, was accepted," he said.
