Region 12 schools close for two days as 'precaution' against the flu
REGION 12 -- All Region 12 schools in Washington, Roxbury and Bridgewater will be closed Thursday, Nov. 12 and Friday, Nov. 13 as a preemptive and precautionary step to break the cycle of infection of "influenza-like illness" that has been steadily increasing among students over the last few days.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bruce Storm has closed Region 12 schools until Monday hoping the five-day hiatus would help reverse an "upward trend of student illness."
Dr. Storm stressed that this is an "anticipatory closure," and a "precautionary measure only."
Schools already will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) due to Veterans Day recognition.
In addition, all extra curricular activities, including high school events, town recreation activities held in school buildings and ASAP workshops scheduled Thursday or Friday will also be postponed or cancelled.
The Shepaug Valley High School play, scheduled to begin this week, has been rescheduled Thursday, Nov. 19, Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m., with a Sunday, Nov. 22 matinee at 3 p.m.
