Region 12 Superintendent of Schools Bruce Storm said a plan for dealing with a potential swine flu epidemic will be posted Monday on the region's Web site.

On the first day of school, Tuesday, Sept. 1, a letter will be sent home with children indicating where parents can go for information on prevention and precaution.

The message will ask parents to keep children home if they show symptoms of swine flu.

Staff and students will be monitored by the school nurses for symptoms of swine flu and sent home if they are showing signs of the disease.

"Our conversation with health officials indicate they will tell us when the disease reaches a point where it is necessary to close the schools," Dr. Storm said.

The superintendent said, at that point, or if there is a large portion of the student population absent with swine flu, a plan would be implemented to continue education on an at-home basis.

The Region 12 school district Web site is www.region-12.org, serving Bridgewater, Roxbury and Washington.
