REDDING — Officials are working to determine what caused a car to burst into flames near the Topstone Road and Simpaug Turnpike intersection over the weekend.

Firefighters from the Redding, West Redding and Georgetown fire departments were called to the intersection shortly before 1:40 p.m. Saturday, and found a fully involved car fire just before the railroad crossing.

All occupants were out of the vehicle by the time firefighters arrived at the scene, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters stretched a hose line and knocked down the fire. No injuries were reported, according to the West Redding Fire Department.

“The exact cause is undetermined at this time,” Fire Marshal Michael Grasso said Monday.
