"Rally for the Rails!" will be held to promote updating of the existing rail lines through northwestern Connecticut," said Todd Shearer of Restore Our Railway, "along with reinstating passenger service from Danbury, through New Milford, North Canaan and into Massachusetts."
Representatives of Restore Our Railway, state Rep Roberta Willis (D-64th), the Train Campaign and others will speak about the importance of the railroad to the communities of northwestern Connecticut and western Massachusetts.
"Gov. (Dannel) Malloy has made transportation a focus of his second term in office," said Shearer. "His State of the State address on Jan. 7 stressed the importance of transportation for the future of the state, and indicated he would take the next 30 days to identify needed projects."
"Restore Our Railways is calling on the governor to add this project to his State of the State transportation vision," he added, "as well as to his second term agenda."
