Phoebe Sprindis, 83, was mother of New Milford man

Phoebe E. (Sharra) Sprindis, 83, of Christian Lane, Brookfield, died July 19, 2009, at Bethel Health Care Center. She was the widow of Lt. Col. Stephen W. Sprindis Sr.
Mrs. Sprindis was born Jan. 1, 1926, in New Milford, daughter of the late John and Anna (Ohnerners) Sharra.
A lifetime member of the community, she was a homemaker who devoted herself to her family.
Mrs. Sprindis was the oldest lifelong member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. She was compassionate and generous woman who gave freely of herself to those who were sick or in need. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a driver for the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Sprindis is survived by three sons, Stephen W. Sprindis Jr., and his wife, Marlan, of Brookfield, John C. Sprindis of Danbury, and Allan R. Sprindis and his wife, Christina, of New Milford; a grandson, Christopher Sprindis; two sisters, Beverly McGuire of Hawaii and Jacqueline Gillman of Windsor Locks; and several nieces and nephews.
The Brookfield Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
