Vanessa Gronbach is taking action to assure John Pettibone School remains open in New Milford.

The New Milford mom and businesswoman has posted an online petition on demanding the Board of Education keep Pettibone School open.

"Closing John Pettibone School will affect us all," the petition reads.

The petition cites possible increased class sizes, quality of children's education and increased tax dollars if the student population were to increase and a new school must be built.

The petition asks, instead, the Catherine Lillis Administration Building along East Street be closed and administrative offices be moved to vacant space anticipated in Pettibone.

A link to the petition can be found on the Facebook page "Save New Milford Schools, Save JPS."

The online petition had 268 signatures by Wednesday. The Facebook page had 473 followers.

The Board of Education is in discussions regarding possibly closing an elementary school in the district due to projected decline in student population.

Pettibone School was recommended as the school to be closed by the Facilities Study Committee that met last year.

A special meeting by the Board of Education on a possible school closing is expected to be resumed soon.
