'Outrun the Sun 5K' to benefit cancer outreach center
The inaugural Outrun the Sun 5K road race will be held Aug. 21 with a 6:30 p.m. start at the Amber Room Colonnade on Stacey Road in Danbury.
The course will lead runners to Candlewood Lake and back to the Amber Room.
A post-race party will feature an outdoor barbeque, beverages and music from The Second Advance.
"I am glad the local business and running communities came together to support such a worthy cause," said the event's creator, Jennifer Putnam. "Our goal is to create a fun event that runners look forward to every summer."
For registration or information, check www.jbsports.com or call 203-481-5933.
Pre-registered runners and the first 100 race-day entrants will receive T-shirts.
Proceeds will benefit Ann's Place, the home of I CAN, which provides comfort and support for people living with cancer, and for their loved ones.
"The running community sets great twin examples of building healthy habits and supporting local charities," said Wilda Hayes, Ann's Place executive director.
"We are privileged to partner with all the runners, the Amber Room and all the generous sponsors of the Outrun the Sun 5K who have stepped forward to support free services for our neighbors touched by cancer," she added.
