Six are in the running for Shepaug principal

The Shepaug Valley High School principal search in Region 12 has been narrowed down to six candidates.

They will be invited to the school for a first round of interviews next week, said Dr. Bruce Storm, the district's superintendent of schools.

All six are from the northwestern part of the state, Dr. Storm said. Names are still confidential but, after this first round of interviews, name of the remaining candidates will be made public.

Washington shifts general funds at meeting

The town of Washington moved monies from its general fund during its annual town meeting Monday.

$70,000 was transferred from the sanitation and conservation of health sections of the general fund to the highways section of the 2008-09 budget.

An amount up to $190,000 was added to the 2009-10 nonrecurring fund for the Painter Ridge road reclaim and repave project, which will be offset by a Rural Minor Connector Grant from the state in an equal amount.

An amount up to $99,500 was added to the 2009-10 nonrecurring fund for the Nettleton Hollow Road bridge project, which will be offset by a State Bridge Fund Grant in an equal amount.
