Town Council OKs dispatchers' union contract

A contract was ratified with the nine-member dispatchers' union in New Milford that gives retroactive pay and benefit increases for 2006, 2007 and 2008.

The contract was agreed to July 13 by the Town Council. The new pact will give a 3.25 percent increase for each year for a total of $145,000.

The dispatchers had left the union AFSME three years ago and joined UPSEU. That change made them legally unable to negotiate a new contract for one year.

Since then, a series of health mishaps have kept subsequent attempts to create a new contract from happening until now, Mayor Pat Murphy said.
