Aileen Dever of New Milford has been elected president of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

Ms. Dever is an associate professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages in the College of Arts and Sciences at Quinnipiac University.

Ms. Dever, who has taught at Quinnipiac since 2000, received a bacherlor's degree from Western Connecticut State University, a master's degree from Middlebury College and a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut.

The AATSP was founded in 1917 to promote the study of teaching of Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian and other related languages, literatures and cultures at all educational levels.
