Museum to celebrate 100th with events

The New Milford Historical Society is celebrating its centennial with a variety of events.

The highlight of the festivities will be a gala at Lake Waramaug Country Club in New Preston May 16 from 6 to 10 p.m.

The event will feature a cabaret act, "A Century of Song," by local musician Hank Milligan, along with short readings by museum members.

Tickets are $100 per person and may be purchased by calling 860-354-3069.

In addition, a special exhibit, "1907: The Loan Exhibition," featuring objects of important historical significance that were in a bicentennial exhibition in 1907 and had been donated to the museum's permanent collection throughout the years, is on display through April 26.

On the horizon is "New Milford: A Century of Collecting, 1915-2015," an exhibit that will feature objects of significance directly representing New Milford during the past 100 years, all of which were loaned from residents to the museum.

The show will run May 24 through Oct. 18.

The organization will participate May 5-6 in the Connecticut Community Foundation's Give Local Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills online giving campaign.

Museum staff and volunteers will make a float for and march in the Memorial Day parade.

As part of the museum's centennial, a new book, "New Milford Revisited," a title in Arcadia Publishing's "Images of America" series, will be released June 29.

The project was led by Kathleen Zuris, assistant curator and former board member.

The book centers on the historical society, mostly in the 20th century, and features more than 200 images from the museum's collection.
