WETHERSFIELD — A two-car crash led to serious injuries and closed a section of Interstate-91 Northbound for about five hours on Sunday morning.

One of the cars drove the wrong way down the highway, the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department said on Facebook. The department thanked a nurse who stopped to help after the crash.

State police originally said multiple cars were involved, but later said two crashed.

The crash occurred around 6 a.m. near exits 25 and 26, according to state police and Wethersfield fire reports.

Exit 25 was shut down completely until around 11:10 a.m., state police said on Twitter. Delays were expected.

The state Department of Transportation had stated the road was closed from exits 25 to 27, but was not reporting a closure as of 9:15 a.m.

A dispatcher with state police did not have further information.
