A cookbook to raise funds for Loaves & Fishes Hospitality House in New Milford is in the works.

"Loaves and Fishes is trying to raise money to purchase a new home so we can move out of the Richmond Citizen Center," explained Lisa Martin, the soup kitchen volunteer organization's president.

"As one of our fundraising activities," she added, "we are putting together a cookbook with recipes from all of the restaurants, bakeries and caterers in town, to sell at the Village Fair Days and other venues."

Proceeds will go directly to funding the purchase and renovation of a new site for Loaves, which hopes to expand its services.

"We want to `Feed the Hungry, Empower the Weak and Nourish the Soul,' our mission statement," said Martin.

Recipes shared will be printed with full credit to the respective facility and/or the chef who created it.

All contributing organizations will be listed in a "Contributors Index," showing name, addresses and telephone numbers.

Food service facilities in Greater New Milford interested in participating are asked to email loavesfishes@charter.net or call 860-488-4381.

"We are working on a tight schedule," said Martin. "We need to have all recipes by June 1 so everything can be compiled and submitted to the publisher for printing in time for Village Fair Days."
