In Sherman, Republican George Linkletter will be challenging three-term First Selectman Andrea O'Connor for her seat in the November election.

Mr. Linkletter, a two-term selectman, was endorsed Tuesday night by his party. His running mate for the selectman's seat is current fellow selectman, Ed Hayes.

"I'm very satisfied with the progress the Board of Selectmen has made in restoring the fiscal balance in the town," said Mr. Linkletter, a 25-year Sherman resident.

"But going forward," he added, "I think we can manage building projects now underway more efficiently. I also want to get more people involved in town government as volunteers."

Ms. O'Connor was endorsed by the Democrats Tuesday and will be running with Kate McConaghy, who is seeking a selectman's seat.

"Andrea's done a tremendous job. She needs a partner on the Board of Selectmen and Kate will provide that," said Joe Keneally, chairman of the Democratic Town Committee.

"Andrea has done a lot of infrastructure work and policy work with personnel almost single-handedly," Mr. Keneally said.
