Are out-of-town students paying the required tuition to attend Kent Center School?

The matter is now under investigation. The town's Board of Education has authorized Superintendent of Schools Patricia Chamberlain to spend up to $5,000 on the investigation.

Mrs. Chamberlain was charged Nov. 1 to work with town officials to determine if some students' families are living out of town but not paying the $10,000-a-year nonresident tuition for their children to attend Center School.

The possibility was raised at the board's September meeting

by First Selectman Bruce Adams.

This school year, four students are paying out-of-town tuition to attend the school, according to school records.

Mrs. Chamberlain said there have been families in past years trying to avoid paying the out-of-town tuition for their children's attendance.
