Kent renters may be eligible for rebate

Jerrilynn Tiso, social services director and municipal agent for the elderly in Kent, is processing renter’s rebate applications, which may be filed through Sept. 15.
Rebates from the State of Connecticut may be available for renters: who were 65 or older by Dec. 31, 2008, or whose spouse was 65 or older by Dec. 31, 2008; were 50 or older as of Dec. 31, 2008, and whose the surviving spouse of a renter who at the time of death had qualified and was entitled to tax relief, provided the couple was living together at the time of death; or who were 18 years or older as of Dec. 31, 2008, and is permanently and totally disabled.
Among the requirements, the applicant must have resided in Connecticut for any one year period prior to filing and income, including Social Security, may not exceed $30,500 if single or $37,300 if married.
