KENT — Those hoping to be the lucky winner of this year’s library car raffle will have to wait until next year.

Kent Memorial Library announced the cancellation of the 2020 raffle Tuesday, saying the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution” due to novel coronavirus concerns.

The annual car raffle not only benefits lucky raffle winners, but the library as well because proceeds from ticket sales help fund its operating budget.

Since launching its annual raffle more than 15 years ago, the Kent Memorial Library has raffled off classic vehicles like a 1952 MG TD Roadster, 1931 Chevy coupe and 1967 Jaguar XK-E coupe, as well as sought-after cars like a Prius hybrid and Mini Cooper.

A South Kent man won a 2000 Porsche Boxster Roadster last year.

Kent Memorial Library plans to hold the annual raffle again next spring.
