Almost 3,000 people turned out Saturday for the 35th annual Pickin' n' Fiddlin' contest hosted by the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department at Hurlburt Community Park.

Rains unfortunately forced the competition to call it a day after five and a half hours but plenty of talent was recognized up to that point.

Honored for their performances (listed first place to third) are:

Max Rainwater, Stacy Phillips and Friso Herman for old- time fiddle;

Guy Wolfe, Eric Clingen and John Bolster for old-time banjo;

Matt Klemets, Al Dungan and Rejean Paquet for seniors;

Tallia Furman-Cott, Korey Brodsky, Natalie Petterson, Tyler Watkins, Lindsey Keton and Olivia McCafferty for juniors;

Jim Allen, Aaron Shaw and Norman Planket for mandolin;

Jorden Hutansky, Max Rainwater and Joseph Purdy for trick and fancy fiddle;

Stony Lonesome, Elk Ridge and Ash Creek for bands.

Competition in guitar, bluegrass and banjo was not judged due to the early finish.

Proceeds of the event will benefit the volunteer firefighters' work and programs.
