Joseph Germano Jr., 65, had owned Midway Market

Joseph Michael Germano Jr., also known as "Midway Joe," 65, of New Milford died Aug. 1, 2009, at New Milford Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was the husband of Joan (Turek) Germano.

Mr. Germano was born Oct. 9, 1943, in Norwalk, son of the late Sylvia de la Parra and Joseph Germano Sr. of Norwalk. He has been a resident of New Milford since 1974, moving from Norwalk.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, having served in Germany during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Germano was the proud owner and operator of Midway Market & Deli in New Milford for the past 25 years, where he was famous for his "Joe's Special" and "Home of the Best Sandwich in Town."

In his free time, he enjoyed golfing and traveling with friends.

In addition to his wife of 35 years, he is survived by his father, Joseph Germano Sr. of Norwalk; two daughters, Lindsay Anne Matthews and her husband, William, of Danbury, and Stacey Lynne Moronta and her husband, Lenin, of New Milford; five sisters, Joanne Ryzak of Brookfield, Carol Murone, formerly of New Milford, Theresa Wood of Norwalk, Noreen Nolan of Colorado and Ruthie Fanali of California; a grandson, Lorenzo Thomas Moronta; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.
