Fire prevention and safety were the order of the day.

For a sixth straight year, the New Milford fire marshal's office and New Milford firefighters teamed Oct. 5 to conduct the New Milford Fire Prevention & Safety Day.

The event was hosted by The Home Depot in its parking lot along Route 7 South.

This year's theme was "Prevent Kitchen Fires."

Offerings featured a LifeStar landing; an acceleration detection K9 demonstration at the burn building; a live burn demonstration with the three fire departments; a vehicle extrication scenario with the fire departments following the live burn; and a hazardous chemical incident demonstration with the Connecticut Department Energy & Environmental Protection.

Patrons were welcome to view vehicles and equipment from the New Milford Police Department, New Milford Community Ambulance, New Milford CERT, the Candlewood Lake Authority, the Connecticut DEEP marine unit, fire departments, fire investigation unit, the DEEP emergency response unit throughout the day.

In addition, children visited the kids' safety trailer and helped build a fire truck at a Home Depot workshop.
