Washington Republicans endorsed incumbent First Selectman Mark Lyon for a third term Tuesday.

He will be running against Democratic challenger Wayne Hileman, endorsed July 21 by town Democrats.

Mr. Hileman, chairman of the town's Housing Commission since 2006, vowed to bring transparency back to town government and address the declining population of young families in Washington.

Mr. Lyon wants to hold his seat to shepherd the town through the long-range planning for the Region 12 school district. Addressing the declining population of young families in Washington is also a priority for him.

Also endorsed by the Republicans Tuesday were Richard Carey for selectman and Craig Schoon for the Board of Finance.

Democrats on July 21 endorsed Susan Jahnke for selectman and Nick Solley for a Zoning Commission seat.

Incumbent Zoning Commission member David Owen is not running for another term.
