A lecture, "Islam in America as Told By a Muslim Woman and Scholar," by Dr. Homayra Ziad, will be held April 21 at 4 p.m. in Washington.

The program, co-sponsored by the Greater Washington Coalition for Jewish Life, St. John's Episcopal Church and The First Congregational Church in Washington, will be held at St. John's, located at 78 Green Hill Road (Route 47).

A reception, featuring an introduction to some of the theology, sacred history and practice that is shared across Islamic traditions, will follow the program.

Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Dr. Ziad's formative years were also spent in Washington D.C., Kampala, Uganda, and Ankora, Turkey.

Educated in the United States, she worked in the field of international development.

She earned a doctorate in Islamic studies from Yale in 2008.
