Hearing's Monday for Region 12 budget
Residents in Region 12 can have a say Monday, April 8 on their school district's proposed $21.7 million education budget.
A public hearing is set at 7 p.m., at Shepaug Valley Middle/High School in the school's auditorium.
The Board of Education unanimously approved Superintendent of Schools Pat Cosentino's proposal for the 2013-14 school year. That plan would represent a 1.43 percent increase over education spending for 2012-13.
Budget contributions by town, based on student ratio, would be about $5 million from Bridgewater, $6.9 million from Roxbury and $9.5 million from Washington.
"Dr. Cosentino went through all of the line items very closely," said Jim Hirschfield, the Region 12 Board of Education chairman, "making significant cuts and making additions in the area of technology.
"The board unanimously supported her budget, and I'm hopeful the public will do the same," he added.
Following the hearing, the school board will take a final vote on budget approval.
The public referendum will be held May 7.
