The New Milford Health Department is seeking volunteers interested in working on public health and other emergencies.

This effort is part of a nationwide planning initiative in partnership with state and federal agencies, including the Department of Public Health and the Department of Emergency Management of Homeland Security.

Volunteers do not need medical training or background but should reside in one of the four towns in the planning region of New Milford, Sherman, Washington and New Fairfield.

In the event of a public health emergency, volunteers would provide assistance at dispensing clinics for vaccinations or other medications.

Training specific to volunteer assignments will be provided.

Volunteers would be asked to attend no more than four meetings per year and would receive basic training relative to Incident Command System (ICS) structure.

Training is also available for those seeking additional levels of responsibility.

The NMHD is especially seeking persons with skills such as foreign language translation ability, CDL driver's license, or computer/ IT; however specific skills are not required.
