Sports and recreation camps help the kids unwind

The summer's nearly over for thousands of Greater New Milford-area youths but many of them have vivid memories of fun times they've experienced at the many sports and recreation camps they attended since June.

Among the late-summer venues have been a trio of camps visited last week by The Spectrum camera.

Sherman Parks & Recreation hosted its annual baseball camp for boys and girls at Veterans Field while Washington Parks & Recreation welcomed dozens of Region 12 children to the Riverwalk field complex for an entertaining, multi-sports experience.

At Carlson's Grove in the Northville district of New Milford, 36 youths participated in a soccer camp held to help raise money for a prospective new creative playground in town. Camp director Greg Marsan reported nearly $2,700 was accumulated from donations of participants' families.

On hand for portions of the camp as coaching supervisors were New Milford High School boys' and girls' soccer coaches James Tong and Bill Kersten.
