Frank G. Gorgoglione Sr., 91, of Canaan, formerly of Bronx, N.Y., died July 15, 2009, in The Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canaan. He was the husband of the late Gloria (Carroll) Gorgoglione.

Mr. Gorgoglione was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Bronx, N.Y., son of the late Anthony and Josephine (Battiloro) Gorgoglione.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. All six Gorgoglione boys served in different branches of the military during the war. The brothers where known in their 199th Street neighborhood as the "Bronx Angels."

After the war, Mr. Gorgoglione was employed as an iron worker through the International Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Association Union Local #455, retiring at age 58.

Mr. Gorgoglione was an avid Yankee fan, and had played third base in his youth. He loved animals and was known for adopting dogs and cats from local shelters.

Mr. Gorgoglione is survived by two sons, Frank and Bruce Gorgoglione, both of New Milford; two brothers, Enrico Gorgoglione of West Nyack, N.Y. and Albert Gorgoglione of Florida; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Mark Gorgoglione; and three brothers, Victor, Joseph and Louis Gorgoglione.

A prayer service will be held today (Friday) at 10:30 a.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford. Burial will be in St. Raymond's Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y.

Family will receive friends in the Colonial Funeral Home on Friday, half an hour prior to the service.
