Frances E. Heacock, 85, formerly of New Milford, died July 8, 2009, after a brief illness. She was the widow of Sterling E. Heacock Sr. of New Milford.
Mrs. Heacock was born in Danbury, daughter of the late Martin Bowman of Danbury and Orinda Thompso of New Jersey. She resided in New Milford after marrying her high school sweetheart and raised her family there.
She retired from Caldor in Connecticut, where she worked as a retail clerk.
Mrs. Heacock moved to Stockton, Calif., in 1977 to be near her daughter and granddaughter. In Stockton, she became the "babysitter" for many nurses at St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Mrs. Heacock was a loving mother and grandmother, not only to her family but to many others. She always had room for one more at the table and was willing to offer a blanket to those in need.
She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and spending time with friends.
Mrs. Heacock is survived by a daughter, Rene F. and her husband, Michael Fong, of Lodi, Calif.; a granddaughter, Megan Murphy and her husband, Lawrence II Dawson, of Stockton; three great-grandsons, Anthony Parra, KeKoalani-HaiHa Walker and Lawrence Dawson III; and several nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Muriel Butler, Forrista Walker and Lillian McDonnell; a brother, Sidney Bowman; and a son, Sterling E. Heacock Jr. of New Milford.
Committal will be held at Center Cemetery in New Milford today (Friday) at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions for trust funds to be established for her great-grandsons be mailed to F&M Bank, c/o Rene Fong, Woodlake Plaza, Lodi, Calif., 95240.
