The New Milford Fire Marshal's office and local fire departments will co-sponsor Fire Prevention Day Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Festivities, which will be held at Home Depot on Route 7, will focus on the theme "Protect Your Family from Fire."

Fire trucks, ambulances and the Connecticut State Police Officer of state fire marshal investigation van and accelerant detection canine, and Candlewood Lake Authority jetskis will be on display.

In addition, activities will include the New Milford Police Department 911 simulator and Buzz Box, Community Emergency Response Team information, visits with Spanner the Dalmatian, build-a-firetruck activities for children, fire extinguisher training, smoke detector classes, entertainment with Kicks 105.5, popcorn, hot dogs and more.

The schedule will include LifeStar medical helicopter landing at 10 a.m.; hands-on fire extinguisher training at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.; a canine demonstration at 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m.; live burns of mock living rooms at 11 a.m.; and a vehicle extrication scenario at noon.
