For a fourth time, Wendy Faulenbach, the top vote-getter in the most recent local election, has been elected to serve as the New Milford Board of Education chairman.

The veteran Republican replaces Democrat Lisa Diamond, who served two terms after the Democrats had won a board majority two years ago.

In November's election, Republicans attained the majority on the nine-member board.

Two of the three Republican newcomers to the board, Lynette Celli Rigdon and Daniel Nichols, were also elected as board officers. Ms. Rigdon replaces Democrat Thomas McSherry as vice-chairman and Daniel Nichols was elected assistant secretary.

Democrat David Lawson was re-elected as secretary.

After the meeting, Ms. Faulenbach said she was "very grateful'' for the unanimous support, and suggested that to accomplish school district business, the board has to work together as a bi-partisan team.

"I realize the time commitment, and I'm happy to do it,'' said Ms. Faulenbach, who operates a travel business and is the mother of three children in the school district. "I appreciate the opportunity to serve.''
