Driver killed in telephone pole collision
A Waterbury man was killed Saturday afternoon when pickup truck he was driving collided with a telephone pole in Prospect.
State Police said Donovan Nelson, 22 of Hamilton Avenue, Waterbury was pronounced dead after being taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with multiple injuries. A companion, Katerah Edmundson, 20, also was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
State Police said the pair had to be extracted from the truck which rolled onto its side after striking the pole.
The accident took place around 4:14 p.m. at the intersection of Waterbury Road and Greenwich Avenue. Troopers said the 2007 GMC Sierra veered onto the right shoulder, struck the police and then rolled over.
