Dr. Guy Metcalf Jr., 61, was a well known dentist
Mr. Metcalf was born May 12, 1948, in Worcester, Mass., son of Guy David Sr. and Josephine (Clark) Metcalf.
Raised in West Boylston, Mass., Dr. Metcalf graduated in 1966 from West Boylston High School, where he excelled in track and field, and set records in long jump.
He held a bachelor's degree in biology from Clark University in Worcester Mass., and a DDS and certificate in pediatric dentistry from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in New York.
The family moved to New Milford in 1977, when Dr. Metcalf established his dental practice in Brookfield. Prior to that, he was an associate in a dental practice in New Jersey.
In addition to his dental practice, since 1976 Dr. Metcalf had served with the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Columbia as preclinical laboratory director and clinical director predoctoral in pediatric dentistry, and for the past 13 years he was an associate clinical professor at the Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in New York.
Dr. Metcalf was a member of the American Dental Association, the Connecticut State Dental Association, the Greater Danbury Dental Society and the Columbia Dental Alumni Association.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, and loyal and generous friend, he had wide and varied interests.
He was vice president of the New Milford Historical Society, an avid beekeeper, a skiing enthusiast and an antique collector. Family was his life and he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and trips to Vermont.
In addition to his wife of 38 years, and his parents, he is survived by his children, Lori, and her husband, Steve Larson, of New Milford, Jennifer, and her husband, Harty Heffernan, of Middlebury Vt., Guy David III, and his wife, Lindsay, of Grays Lake, Ill., and Meredith of New Milford; seven grandchildren, Collin Larson, Hayden, Hunter, Jolee and Jaxson Heffernan and Alexis and Guy David Metcalf IV; a brother, Gary, and his wife, Nancy, of Princeton, Mass.; a sister, Karen, and her husband, Patrick Lebel-McGreal, of West Boylston; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
